Carraig Donovan stands at stud here at Poppinghole Farm.

Carraig Donovan (stable name Donni) is a pure bred Irish draught stallion, standing at 167cm with 9″ of bone.

Carraig Donovan has rare bloodlines going back to Parnell, Night Nurse and Ben Purple.

Donni was the highest placed pure bred stallion in the performance class at the Irish draught bred show 2014. He was also the overall ridden stallion champion at the breed show, gaining the most points for his performance over the weekend.

We imported Donni from Ireland in 2013.

He will produce show hunters, sports horses, hunters and quality riding horses.

He has jumped up to 1.20m in his first season and was regularly placed whilst accumulating 28 SJI points and double clears in both 1.10m and 1.20m classes. He has been awarded a sliver merit for show jumping. He has an impressive jumping technique for his breed and type, as well as wonderful temperament. In addition, he shows impeccable manners with a fantastic nature and a relaxed, affectionate attitude. A great trainable temperament to put on all your mares.

This versatile stallion, not only show jumps but does dressage, hunting, goes up the gallops and joins in on beach rides with all the other horses on the yard.

Donni is a very versatile and athletic example of his breed.

The Irish draught horse is a powerful and athletic animal with substance and quality. Today, they are especially popular for crossing with thoroughbreds and warmbloods, producing the popular Irish sport horses (also called Irish Draught Sport Horses) which excel at the highest levels of eventing and show jumping and are exported across the globe.

Donni was purchased to breed with good quality thoroughbred mares to produce event horses and hunter jumpers. We have quality stock here on the farm for sale.

All foals by this stallion out of a class 1 or 2 Irish draught mare are eligible for class 1 status in the main Irish draught stud book.

He covered a range of mares  from Balmoral II,  Hanoverian state premium mares and quality show jumpers as well as our own mares. We are looking forward to seeing next year’s crop of foals due early in March.
